The germ of the idea for this song goes back to about 2001. I seem to recall singing it on vacation in Hawaii. It was just about the dumbest thing I could imagine.
For years it was just this a cappella thing, but eventually it matured into a song, with harmony 'n' guitars 'n' piano 'n' everything.
I think the strong repetitive pattern of the lyrics makes this well-suited to teach the sight words that comprise the verses. And I like the contrast between the simple, single-syllable verses and that one incredibly long word in the chorus. I mean, if you're one or two years old, "transportation" might as well be "antidisestablishmentarianism."
